Troubled Product
InPoint Commercial Real Estate Income
A non-traded REIT that makes real estate loans. Its value per share is down by more than a third from its 2020 price, its monthly payout was just cut by three-quarters, and buybacks are suspended.
What It Is
InPoint Commercial Real Estate Income is a non-traded real estate investment trust that makes commercial real estate loans. Its adviser is an affiliate of Inland. Shares don't trade on an exchange; the main way out was the company's share repurchase plan.
How It Was Sold
Through Inland Securities Corporation and participating broker-dealers, in an offering of up to $2.35 billion. In October 2020, Class A shares cost $23.14, including a $1.29 selling commission and a $0.27 dealer manager fee. Class D shares cost $21.57.
What Went Wrong
- The value fell. The company reported Class D net asset value of $13.56 a share at March 31, 2026, against the $21.57 Class D price in 2020. That's a drop of about 37 percent (our calculation).
- The offering ended. The company says its public offering officially terminated on November 1, 2025.
- The payout was cut. The monthly distribution was $0.1042 a share for the July 2026 record date and $0.026 for the September 2026 record date, a cut of about 75 percent (our calculation). The company told stockholders the old distribution was not well aligned with what the portfolio was earning.
- No way out. The company lists the suspension of its share repurchase plan as a risk and says it plans to hire an investment bank to explore strategic options.
Its reported value per share was about $13.48 at September 30, 2026.
